Chime Fees: What Chime Charges and What's Free
Chime fees are narrow by design: the checking account carries no monthly fee, no minimum balance fee and no overdraft fee, and the charges that do exist sit on optional services. As of October 2026, Chime's FAQ names those optional charges as outbound instant transfers, out-of-network transactions and credit products. This page lists every fee Chime publishes on its own help center and product pages, what triggers it, and how to avoid it, with each figure linked to the Chime page it came from.
Chime fees at a glance
Chime charges nothing to open or hold a checking account, and most everyday activity is free. The fees that apply are tied to specific actions: using an ATM outside Chime's network, taking cash over the counter, depositing cash at most retailers, and requesting an instant MyPay advance. The table below collects each one with its source.

Does Chime have monthly fees?
Chime's no-fees page says Chime does not charge a monthly fee on its checking account. There is also no minimum balance fee, no annual fee and no fee to sign up. A member who keeps money in the account and spends with the debit card inside the United States can go a full month without paying Chime anything.
The Chime No Fees page lists no monthly fees, no minimum balance fees and no overdraft fees as of October 2026. The Chime FAQ adds that there are no fees to sign up and no annual fees, while noting that optional services and products may carry charges. The Chime Visa Debit Card page confirms there is no replacement card fee either.
What is Chime's out-of-network ATM fee?
Chime charges a flat fee each time a member withdraws cash at an ATM outside its network, and the ATM owner can add its own surcharge on top. Withdrawals at Chime's in-network ATMs cost nothing. The international ATM fee follows the same structure, and over-the-counter cash at a bank teller has its own per-transaction charge.
As of October 2026, Chime's cash withdrawal help page sets the out-of-network fee at $2.50 per withdrawal, plus any fee charged by the ATM operator. The same page lists 47,000+ fee-free ATMs through Allpoint, Visa Plus Alliance ATMs in the Allpoint network, and FCTI ATMs inside 7-Eleven and Speedway stores. International ATM withdrawals also cost $2.50 plus operator fees, and members with Chime Prime status get up to two $2.50 reimbursements per calendar month; operator fees are not reimbursed.
Over-the-counter withdrawals at a bank or credit union cost $2.50 per transaction with a $515 daily limit, per the same Chime withdrawal page. The in-app ATM map under Move then Find an ATM shows which machines are in network.
Does Chime charge a cash deposit fee at retailers?
Chime does not take a fee for cash deposits itself, but the retailer that accepts the cash usually does. Two chains are always free, and every other retail partner sets its own charge. Cash cannot be deposited at an ATM, so the retailer network is the only cash route into a Chime account.
The Chime cash deposit help page states that deposits at Walgreens and Duane Reade are always free, while other partners charge a fee that is typically $3 to $5 per transaction, set by the retailer, as of October 2026. Partners in the fee column include Walmart, 7-Eleven, Speedway, Dollar General, Family Dollar, CVS and Circle K. The same page caps deposits at $3,000 per transaction, $3,000 per day and $10,000 per month, and notes that Rite Aid is no longer a supported deposit partner. For the full limit picture, see Chime Limits.
How much is the MyPay instant transfer fee?
MyPay, Chime's earned-wage advance, has two delivery speeds. The standard option arrives within a day and costs nothing. The instant option carries a percentage fee with a floor and a ceiling. MyPay has no interest, no mandatory fees, no late fees, no enrollment cost and no annual fee.
As of October 2026, the What is MyPay help page sets the instant fee at 3% of the advance amount, with a minimum of $2 and a maximum of $5, and says some members may qualify for a free instant advance. Members covered by the Military Lending Act are not charged instant advance fees. Advances range from $20 to $500 per pay period, with some members eligible for up to $1,000. Eligibility requires two Qualifying Direct Deposits of $200 or more within 36 days, per MyPay Access and Limits.
Outbound instant transfers to other banks are listed in the Chime FAQ as an optional service that may carry a fee. No Chime page fetched for this article states that fee as a figure, so the app's transfer screen is the place to confirm it before sending. Pay Anyone transfers to other Chime members are free per the same FAQ.
Does Chime charge a foreign transaction fee?
Chime does not charge a foreign transaction fee on card purchases made abroad or with merchants outside the United States. The card works in most countries where Visa is accepted, with no travel notice required. Cash from an ATM abroad is a separate case and does carry Chime's ATM fee.
Chime's international card help page states that Chime does not charge foreign transaction fees and lists the countries where the card will not work, as of October 2026. International ATM withdrawals still cost $2.50 plus operator fees, per the Chime withdrawal page. The Visa network sets the conversion rate applied to a foreign purchase, so the dollar amount posted can differ from a rate seen elsewhere on the same day.
Does SpotMe charge fees or tips?
SpotMe is Chime's fee-free overdraft feature. Chime covers a card purchase or cash withdrawal beyond the account balance, up to a set limit, and the amount is repaid automatically from the next deposit. Chime's SpotMe help page describes it as having no overdraft fees and does not list any tip.
The What is SpotMe help page describes a base limit that starts at $20 and can rise to $200, with $5 Boosts shared between members, as of October 2026. Eligibility requires a Qualifying Direct Deposit of $200 or more in the past 34 days. The page notes that ATM fees still apply when SpotMe covers a withdrawal: an out-of-network withdrawal needs enough room to cover the $2.50 Chime fee and any operator fee, or it is declined. The page does not describe a tipping option, so this article makes no claim about tips beyond that.
How to avoid Chime fees
Most Chime fees can be avoided by choosing where cash moves. Using in-network ATMs removes the withdrawal fee, depositing cash at the two free chains removes the retailer charge, and choosing standard MyPay delivery removes the instant fee. Card purchases, including those abroad, carry no Chime fee.
Withdraw at Allpoint, Visa Plus Alliance in the Allpoint network, or FCTI ATMs in 7-Eleven and Speedway, per the Chime withdrawal page.
Deposit cash at Walgreens or Duane Reade, per the Chime cash deposit page.
Choose the free within-24-hours MyPay option, per What is MyPay.
Use Pay Anyone for transfers to other Chime members, which the Chime FAQ lists as free.
For comparison with other apps, see the guides to Cash App and Venmo pricing. For background on the company itself, see Who Owns Chime.
What this page does not cover
This page covers fees Chime publishes for its checking account, debit card, cash access, MyPay and SpotMe. It does not cover fees charged by ATM owners, retailers or other banks, the interest or terms of Chime's credit products, or any fee Chime shows only inside the app rather than on its public pages.
It also leaves out the outbound instant transfer fee amount, because no Chime page fetched for this article states a figure. Pending card holds are explained in What Is a Pending Transaction, and standard bank transfer timing in Same Day ACH.
Methodology and sources
Every fee on this page was read from a Chime page fetched live for this article, starting from the Chime FAQ and the help center pages listed below. Where a fee could not be confirmed on a Chime page, it was left out rather than estimated. Chime can change fees at any time, so the linked page and the Chime app are the final word on current pricing.
