Remitly Tracking: How to Check Your Transfer Status
Remitly tracking works through the sender's own profile: open the Remitly app or sign in on the website, select the transfer, and the status and reference number appear on the transfer details page, per the Remitly Help Center tracking article. Remitly also sends an email, text, or app notification with the reference number every time the status changes.
Remitly uses six main statuses: In Progress, In Review, On Hold, Ready for Pickup, Delivered, and Canceled, with a seventh, Pending Funds, listed on its delivery troubleshooting page. This guide covers where to find the reference number, what each status means as of October 2026, how long delays usually last, and when to contact support.
Where can you check a Remitly transfer status?
A Remitly transfer status can be checked in three places: the Home tab of the Remitly app, the Transfer history page on the Remitly website, and the email, text, or app notifications Remitly sends on each update. There is no public lookup form. The sender signs in, and the recipient relies on messages or the sender.
In the app, recent transfers sit on the Home tab, and selecting one opens the reference number and more status detail, according to Remitly's tracking article. On the web, the sender signs in and opens Transfer history, which can be filtered to in-progress or delivered transfers.
One quirk catches people who send to more than one country. Remitly says the full history may not appear after sign-in, and the fix is the Manage tab, then the country drop-down, then the transfer's destination country, per the same Remitly help page.
Where is the Remitly reference number?
The Remitly reference number is the tracking identifier for a transfer. Senders find it at the top of the transfer details page, right after the recipient's name. Recipients find it in the text message Remitly sends them. A cash pickup recipient needs this number to collect the money, so it should be shared before they travel.
If the recipient never got a text, Remitly tells them to ask the sender for the number, per the Remitly Help Center. Every status notification also carries the reference number, so searching the sender's inbox or text history is a quick recovery path. For comparison, MoneyGram's tracker works differently: it takes a reference number plus the sender's last name with no login, as covered in MoneyGram Tracking.
What does each Remitly status mean?
Each Remitly status describes where the money sits and whether anyone must act. In Progress and Delivered need no action. In Review is a compliance check run by Remitly. On Hold means the sender must fix something. Ready for Pickup waits on the recipient. Canceled means the transfer stopped and any charge is refunded.
The definitions below come from Remitly's tracking article and its not-delivered guide, both fetched in October 2026.
Status | What it means | Who acts | Source |
Pending Funds | Remitly is still waiting for the sender's payment | Sender completes payment
In Progress | On track to arrive by the promised delivery date | No one
In Review | Compliance review; usually under 24 hours | Remitly, may contact sender
On Hold | Sender must fix details or upload documents | Sender
Ready for Pickup | Cash is waiting at the pickup location | Recipient collects
Delivered | Sent to the recipient's account or collected | No one, unless funds are missing after 48 hours
Canceled | Transfer stopped; refund issued if charged | Sender reviews reason |
Ready for Pickup is the status most often misread. Remitly's own app tracking guide, published October 7, 2026, stresses that it means the money is available, not that the recipient has collected it. Until collection, the sender can still edit the transfer to pick another delivery method.
How long do Remitly transfers take?
Remitly shows an expected delivery time before each transfer is sent, and that time is an estimate rather than a guarantee. Timing depends on the payment method, the destination country, the delivery method, the receiving bank or pickup company, and any verification checks. The app updates the estimate as the transfer moves.
Remitly lists those five timing factors in its app tracking guide and answers "Is the expected delivery time guaranteed?" with a plain no. For per-corridor speed and the price of faster delivery options, see Remitly Fees.
The published delay windows are short. Per the Remitly not-delivered guide, most In Progress delays clear on their own within 24 to 48 hours, In Review normally finishes in less than 24 hours, and a Delivered bank deposit usually reaches the account within 48 hours. Weekends, bank holidays, and local events such as severe weather extend those windows.
Why is a Remitly transfer on hold or delayed?
A Remitly transfer goes on hold when Remitly needs something from the sender, most often identity verification, corrected recipient details, or approval of a pending sending limit increase. Delays without a hold usually come from the delivery partner: a review on their side, a pickup location that is shut, a cash shortage, or a temporary outage.
Remitly's on-hold article lists five causes: identity verification, a pending sending limit increase, incorrect recipient information, review by the delivery provider, and a delivery provider that is temporarily unavailable. Only the last needs no action. If a limit request is the blocker, amounts above the current tier will not process until approval, which Remitly Limits covers in detail.
Timing matters for holds. Per Remitly's cancellation article, a transfer is canceled if requested verification documents do not arrive within three days. Uncollected cash pickups are usually canceled after 60 days.
What to do next, by status
The right next step depends on the status shown and how long it has shown. Most statuses resolve without contact. Support is worth contacting when a transfer passes 48 hours beyond its promised delivery time, when Delivered funds are missing after 48 hours, or when a hold shows no clear instruction.
This decision path follows the thresholds in Remitly's not-delivered guide:
If the status is Pending Funds: finish payment from the transfer details page.
If the status is On Hold: open the app notification or email and upload the document or edit the recipient details.
If the status is In Review:
Under 24 hours: wait and watch for a call, email, or text.
Over 24 hours with no contact: message support through in-app chat.
If the status is In Progress:
Within 48 hours of the promised time: wait, especially over a weekend or holiday.
More than 48 hours past it: contact Remitly.
If the status is Ready for Pickup and the location is shut or out of cash: edit the transfer to a different location or delivery method.
If the status is Delivered and the bank shows nothing after 48 hours: use Remitly's missing bank deposit help.
Can a Remitly transaction be traced?
Yes. Every Remitly transfer carries a reference number that Remitly support, the sender, and the recipient can use to identify it, and the sender's transfer history keeps a record of each one. A Delivered transfer that has not reached a bank account can be traced through Remitly support using that number.
Remitly's app guide notes that recipients of supported transfers can get status updates by WhatsApp, and that in-app chat is the starting point for questions. For a payment that shows as pending at the sender's own bank, What Is a Pending Transaction explains the card and bank side.
Where Remitly tracking falls short
Remitly tracking has three practical limits. Recipients cannot look up a transfer themselves without the reference number from a text or the sender. Multi-country senders may not see full history until they switch destination country. And the delivery estimate is explicitly not guaranteed, so a promised date can slip without any status change.
The status list is also coarse. In Progress covers both normal processing and a delivery partner still confirming funds, per the Remitly delivery guide, so the status alone cannot tell a sender which of those is happening.
What this page does not cover
This page covers tracking and statuses for transfers sent from a Remitly profile. It does not cover Remitly fees, exchange-rate margins, or sending limits by tier, which have their own pages. It does not cover Remitly Business payments, the Remitly Card, or refund timing, which depends on the original payment method.

Methodology and sources
Every status definition, time window, and procedure on this page comes from Remitly's own published pages, starting with the Remitly tracking article, fetched on October 21, 2026. No figures were taken from third-party reviews. Remitly can change statuses and timelines, so the linked pages are the reference of record if anything here differs.
