Remitly Fees: Express vs Economy Costs by Corridor
Remitly fees are a flat or tiered transfer fee set per corridor, plus an exchange-rate margin built into the rate the sender is quoted. As of October 2026, Remitly's US to Mexico pricing page lists $1.99 for bank deposit and $3.99 for cash pickup, while the US to India page lists $3.99 below $1,000 and $0 at $1,000 or more. Remitly is not free in general, but some corridors and first transfers carry a $0 fee.
This page pulls the fee tables Remitly publishes for five US corridors into one place, explains how Express and Economy pricing differ, and shows where the exchange-rate margin sits. Every figure below was fetched from Remitly's own pages on October 21 2026 and links back to them.
How much does Remitly charge to send money?
Remitly charges a sender fee that depends on the destination country, the amount, the delivery method and, in some corridors, the speed tier. Recipients pay no Remitly fee. The second cost is the exchange rate, which is set by Remitly and shown before the transfer is confirmed. Credit card funding can add a separate percentage fee.
The Remitly help article on costs states that "Remitly does not charge any fees for recipients" and that the fee and exchange rate appear in the Transfer summary before the sender confirms. The same article says the rate and fee "could change depending on the amount you're sending, where you're sending to, and the options you select," and that new customer offers and offer codes can change either number.
That gives three separate levers: the posted fee, the quoted rate, and the funding method. A zero posted fee says nothing about the other two.
Remitly fees by corridor
Remitly publishes a separate fee table for each destination, and the structures differ. Mexico prices by delivery method, India prices by amount, the Philippines charges nothing for bank deposit or mobile wallet, Nigeria lists no fees on naira transfers, and Vietnam runs an eight-band Economy and Express schedule, per Remitly's corridor pricing pages. The table below summarizes each published schedule.
Corridor | Published fee structure (as of October 2026) | Speed tiers shown | Source |
US to Mexico (MXN) | Cash pickup $3.99; bank or debit card deposit $1.99; mobile wallet $1.99 | Not split on the fee table
US to Philippines (PHP) | Bank deposit $0; mobile wallet $0; cash pickup $4.99; home delivery $4.99 | Not split on the fee table
US to Philippines (USD payout) | Bank deposit 1.25% plus $2.99 below $1,000, 0.75% plus $2.99 at $1,000 or more; cash pickup 1.75% plus $2.99 below $1,000, 1.25% plus $2.99 at $1,000 or more | Not split
US to India (INR) | $3.99 below $1,000; $0 at $1,000 or more | Not split
US to Nigeria (NGN) | Page headline: no fees on all transfers to NGN; USDC table shows Economy $0, Express $3.99 | Economy and Express (USDC table)
US to Vietnam (USD table) | Economy $3.99 to $17.99; Express $4.99 to $54.99, across eight amount bands | Economy and Express |
Each of these pages also advertises a promotional exchange rate for a new customer's first transfer, capped at a set amount: 1,000 USD for Mexico and the Philippines, 6,000 USD for India and 500 USD for Nigeria, per the terms printed on the India pricing page and the Nigeria pricing page. Above the cap, the standard rate applies to the rest of the transfer.
What is the difference between Remitly Express and Economy?
Express is the faster tier and is typically paid by debit or credit card. Economy is slower, is typically funded from a bank account, and carries a lower or zero fee where both tiers are offered. The gap between the two fees is small on low amounts and widens on large ones in corridors like Vietnam.
A Remitly guide updated May 28 2026 describes Express transfers as arriving "in minutes when funded with a debit or credit card" and says Economy transfers take three to five business days because they are typically funded by a bank account. Remitly's costs help article adds that the options shown depend on the corridor, and that the app lists which tiers are available once an amount is entered.
The Vietnam fee table shows how the spread grows with amount:
Send amount | Economy | Express | Difference | Source |
Below $200 | $3.99 | $4.99 | $1.00
$400 to $999.99 | $5.99 | $7.99 | $2.00
$1,000 to $1,999.99 | $9.99 | $14.99 | $5.00
$3,000 to $3,999.99 | $13.99 | $34.99 | $21.00
$5,000 or more | $17.99 | $54.99 | $37.00 |

How the exchange-rate margin adds to the cost
The exchange-rate margin is the gap between the mid-market rate and the rate Remitly quotes. It is not listed as a fee line, but it reduces how much the recipient gets. On larger transfers it can cost more than the posted fee, so comparing the quoted rate with the same-day mid-market rate shows the real total.
Remitly's help article says it refreshes rates regularly and shows the rate in the transfer flow, and its currency converter displays the current rate per currency pair. This page does not quote a live rate, because rates change during the day. The working method is simple: note the rate Remitly quotes, look up the mid-market rate at the same moment, and multiply the percentage gap by the send amount.
A worked structure, with no live numbers: if the quoted rate sits 1% below mid-market on a $1,000 transfer, the margin costs about $10, on top of any posted fee. At 1,000 USD to India, the posted fee on the India pricing page is $0, so the margin is the whole cost.
Is Remitly free?
Remitly is free in specific cases, not across the board. Posted fees are zero for Philippine bank deposit and mobile wallet, larger Indian transfers, and naira transfers to Nigeria. New customers also get no fee on a first transfer in these corridors. In every case the exchange-rate margin still applies.
The zero-fee cases come straight from Remitly's Philippines, India and Nigeria pricing pages, each of which also states "No fees on your first transfer" for new customers, one per customer, for a limited time. Credit card funding is not free in any corridor: the Remitly card payment article lists a 3% credit card fee for US senders, and notes that some card issuers treat the transfer as a cash withdrawal and charge their own fee. Business debit cards may be charged the same way.
Which fee option fits which transfer
The lowest-cost Remitly setup usually pairs bank-account funding, Economy speed where offered, and bank deposit or mobile wallet payout. Cash pickup, home delivery, Express and credit cards each add cost in exchange for speed or access. The decision depends on how fast the money must arrive and how the recipient collects it.
If the recipient needs cash and has no bank or wallet: cash pickup, at $3.99 in Mexico or $4.99 in the Philippines per Remitly's Mexico page and Philippines page.
Else if the money must arrive the same day: Express funded by debit card, avoiding the 3% US credit card fee listed in the Remitly card payment article.
Else if the amount is large and timing is flexible: Economy funded by bank account, where the Remitly Vietnam pricing table shows a $37 saving at $5,000.
Else if sending to India: amounts of $1,000 or more carry a $0 posted fee on Remitly India pricing.
Where Remitly's pricing falls short
Remitly's fee tables are clear, but three limits matter. The margin is not itemized, so the true cost needs a separate rate check. Fee tables differ by corridor, so one corridor's price says nothing about another. Promotional rates cover only a capped first amount, which can make a first quote look cheaper than later transfers.
The Nigeria page shows the corridor gap clearly: the naira headline says no fees, while a separate USDC table on the same Nigeria pricing page lists a $3.99 Express fee. Remitly's card article also says card fees "may vary by corridor and are subject to change." For a side-by-side with another provider, see Remitly vs Wise and the MoneyGram Fees breakdown, which uses the same fee plus margin method.
What this page does not cover
This page covers posted sender fees, speed tiers and the exchange-rate margin for five US corridors. It does not cover sending limits, transfer tracking, sends from outside the US, business accounts, or live exchange rates. Fees for any corridor not listed should be checked on that corridor's own Remitly pricing page.
Remitly's limits on how much can be sent in 24 hours, 30 days and 180 days are covered in Remitly Limits, based on the windows Remitly describes on its Mexico pricing FAQ. Status meanings and reference numbers are covered in Remitly Tracking.
Methodology and sources. All fees were fetched from Remitly's US pricing pages for Mexico, the Philippines, India, Nigeria and Vietnam on October 21 2026, along with the costs help article, the card payment help article and the Remitly Nepal guide for Express and Economy timing. Remitly changes fees and promotions without notice, so the in-app Transfer summary is the final word for any single transfer.
