FIUSD is the Fiserv stablecoin: a US dollar token that Fiserv, the payments and core banking processor, announced on June 23, 2025 for banks, credit unions, and merchants on its network. Fiserv said FIUSD would use stablecoin infrastructure from Paxos and Circle, run on Solana, and plug into existing Fiserv banking and payments platforms at no additional cost to clients, according to the Fiserv press release.
FIUSD matters because of distribution. Fiserv processes for thousands of US financial institutions, so a token wired into its core systems can reach community banks that would never build stablecoin infrastructure alone. This page separates what Fiserv has said publicly from what is confirmed live.
What is FIUSD?
FIUSD is a dollar stablecoin created by Fiserv as part of a new digital asset platform for financial institutions. Fiserv describes it as a fully reserved, USD-backed token that is always redeemable at one dollar. It is designed so banks keep control of the customer relationship while offering stablecoin payments inside their existing Fiserv tools.
Fiserv's FIUSD product page calls it a "fully reserved, USD-backed stablecoin" built for financial institutions. The June 2025 release says FIUSD would be offered across a network that includes relationships with approximately 10,000 financial institution clients and six million merchant locations processing 90 billion transactions annually.
The same release says Fiserv is also exploring deposit tokens, which it describes as a more capital-friendly structure for banks. FIUSD and deposit tokens are separate ideas: a stablecoin is a bearer token backed by reserves, while a deposit token represents a claim on a specific bank's deposits.
How does the Fiserv stablecoin work?
FIUSD sits on top of Fiserv's existing bank software. Fiserv said the token would use Paxos and Circle for issuance infrastructure, Solana as the blockchain, and its Finxact core platform as the ledger. Banks reach it through a software development kit inside Fiserv products they already use, with Fiserv's fraud and settlement controls applied.
The launch release names Experience Digital and Commercial Center as the customer-facing platforms where the SDK fits, and says the digital asset platform uses Finxact as the underlying ledger. It also says Fiserv intends FIUSD to be interoperable with several leading stablecoins.
Reserve management is the other half of the design. On September 29, 2025, Fiserv signed an agreement to acquire StoneCastle Cash Management and said it plans to use StoneCastle's platform "to help financial institutions retain funds associated with FIUSD stablecoin issuance" (Fiserv release). The point is to keep reserve cash inside community banks rather than draining it to a single issuer.
Bank or credit union (Fiserv core client) | SDK inside Experience Digital / Commercial Center v Fiserv digital asset platform (Finxact ledger) | \ | issuance infra \ reserve cash v v Paxos / Circle StoneCastle deposit network | (insured bank deposits) v FIUSD on Solana ----> Mastercard acquirers, PayPal PYUSD interop (planned)
Who are Fiserv's FIUSD partners?
Fiserv's named FIUSD partners are Paxos and Circle for stablecoin infrastructure, Solana as the chain, Mastercard for card network acceptance and settlement, and PayPal for planned interoperability with PayPal USD. The Bank of North Dakota has been reported as the first white-label issuer, under the name Roughrider.
Each partner role comes from a separate announcement. Paxos and Circle executives are quoted in the Fiserv release. Mastercard said it would integrate FIUSD across its products, enable on and off ramps, and offer FIUSD as a settlement option for its acquirers, with reach across more than 150 million merchants (Mastercard release, June 24, 2025). Fiserv and PayPal announced plans for FIUSD and PYUSD interoperability in a separate Fiserv release.

Is FIUSD live?
Fiserv has given a date but has not published a launch release for general availability. In June 2026, Fiserv's chief executive told an investor conference that FIUSD would go live in July. At the time of writing, no Fiserv press release or SEC filing reviewed for this article confirmed that launch.
Payments Dive reported the remark from the Bernstein Strategic Decisions conference, quoting Lyons: "FIUSD goes live in July" (Payments Dive, June 3, 2026). The original June 2025 plan targeted the end of 2025 (Fiserv). Fiserv's 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 and its August 2026 earnings release do not mention FIUSD.
Readers should treat any claim that FIUSD is broadly live as unconfirmed until Fiserv publishes it. The product page describes FIUSD in the present tense, but it does not state a launch date or list live banks.
Why does Fiserv want its own stablecoin?
Fiserv's stated reason is that its bank clients worry stablecoins will pull deposits out of the banking system. A Fiserv-branded token, with reserves routed back into community bank deposits, lets those banks offer stablecoin payments without losing funding. Fiserv also gains a product that runs across its merchant and banking networks.
Lyons framed the concern directly: "Our banking customers' biggest worries around stablecoin [are] that deposits leave the system," as quoted by Payments Dive. The StoneCastle deal is the mechanism Fiserv cited for keeping those funds with institutions (Fiserv).
At launch, Fiserv COO Takis Georgakopoulos described the company as "uniquely positioned to advance stablecoin-powered payments" because of its scale and reach (Fiserv release).
What are the limits of FIUSD?
FIUSD has three open questions. Launch timing has slipped from the original end of 2025 target, and general availability is not confirmed in Fiserv's own releases. Its stated footprint is Solana only. And a bank-branded token still needs liquidity and acceptance outside Fiserv's network to be useful for cross-border flows.
The single-chain point comes from the June 2025 release, which names Solana and an intention to interoperate with other stablecoins, without naming other chains. Banks that need to move value between FIUSD, USDC, and other tokens across several networks would rely on interoperability work that is still announced rather than shipped. Orchestration layers such as Eco already move stablecoins across chains through existing rails, which is one way institutions handle multi-chain settlement today.
Fiserv's regulatory structure for FIUSD issuance under the GENIUS Act is not described in the primary releases reviewed here, so this article does not characterize it.
